DecisionMap has been created by Ordnance Survey Ireland and Twelve Horses with the goal of encouraging enhanced use of publically available data to aid decision making in the public and private sector.
We believe that decisions based on data are better decisions. What we've tried to do with DecisionMap is to make the data more accessible and easier to use.
We've used mapping services from Ordnance Survey Ireland in partnership with interactive visualisations created using the VIZI platform from Twelve Horses. The maps and visualisations use multiple sources including data collated by the Central Statistics Office provided through the National University of Ireland Maynooth. DecisionMap brings these services together for the first time to create something truly unique.
This is the first time we've done this and it is very much a work in progress. We built a lean website. We want you to use DecisionMap and to give us feedback so we can improve it as we go.
We're launching in Beta because we believe that's how things should be done. DecisionMap currently uses data from the 2002 and 2006 Census. We want you to use it now so we can further enhance the service prior to the publication of the 2011 Census data next year. As the 2011 Census data is released we'll add it to DecisionMap. DecisionMap itself will also develop over the coming months. We have a plan and more visualisation types we want to introduce but we really need your feedback to ensure that this service is adding value. Otherwise truthfully what is the point?
To use DecisionMap start with a question. In our experience the best questions lead to even more questions have a play and please let us know what you think.
